Right north above Mestia there is an amazing viewpoint ridge that will make you feel as in the middle of the biggest Georgian mountains. This ridge is a frequented ski tour, following the track to Koruldi Lakes. It is quite some elevation, so give it some time to go up and come back down.
You can skin from the center of Mestia or drive up to the first hairpin north east of Mestia. The track follows a (dirt) road the way up untill you end up on the ridge. From here you will pass several newer and older wooden huts untill you reach the location of the lakes. Before you reach the ridge, you have the choice to go left via the viewpoint and cross or take a right through some trees more on the right side of the ridge, directly towards the lakes and mountain pass.
From the lakes there is a longer version of this tour possible further up the steep pass towards the highest point of Chalaati Glacier and down from there over the glacier.
For this tour we return our tracks and ski down one or several of the slopes towards the steeper hairpin road section. It has several nice descents in between the hairpins that come up the hill.
Make sure to spot all the good descents bits while walking up and make a plan how to get there when skiing down.
