This unfrequented tour takes you through some of Gudauri region’s best tree skiing on a north-facing ridge that holds snow surprisingly well considering its low elevation.
On the northernmost road of the village Kvesheti, start skinning next to the tiny cemetery. Across the stream are ruins of an old settlement. The route is relatively straightforward, following the valley upwards through a clearing in the trees all the way to the top. A few more complex sections require strategically placed switchbacks to avoid unnecessary effort where the terrain is uneven. Unless someone else made a skin track before you, expect deep snow and slow progress.
From the top of the ridge, choose your descent through one of the forested areas on the left or right, or back down the clearing along your skin track. The top half of this tour often holds very light snow even when everything in Gudauri is skied out/wet, so it’s worth lapping a few times.
